Hi, could anyone tell me what the maximum dose of MTX is please, as my consultant has just agreed (reluctantly) to raise my dose to 20mg weekly, due to the number of flare ups ive had recently and I was wondering if this was getting close to the maximum. If so, what treatment can I expect to be offered if it doesn't improve things? Thanks
PS my wife would like to know if there is an area on the forum dedicated to the families of RA sufferers

Hi, I'm not sure what the maximum dose of mtx is, but there are some on here on 25mg.
Your consultant should have discussed with you what the next step will be if the increased dose doesn't have the required effect, but possibly he might add another DMARD, Combinations of two or three DMARDS often work well where one drug has failed.
Hopefully the increased mtx will work for you, lots of people do well on mtx alone.

There is a thread on the forum for partners/ families of RA sufferers. If you go to the forum home page and scroll down, it is third from the bottom.
Fingers crossed for improvement for you on the mtx.

Sometimes, a very slight increase in mtx will keep you going for a long time. Hope it all goes well for you
